A receipt from a Yamaha dealer in Bengaluru shows that the bookings for the Yamaha R15 v3.0 have commenced unofficially.

The booking amount stands at INR 5,000, but may change from dealer to dealer.

Select dealers have started accepting the bookings for Yamaha R15 v3.0. The bike will reportedly be launched next month at the 2018 Auto Expo in the country. The India-spec version loses out on certain equipment to make it cost competitive in a price-sensitive market like ours. The bike comes with a traditional fork instead of the upside-down units, the front fender is from the outgoing model and they have replaced the aluminium pillion footpeg holder with traditional ones.

The bike features a 155 cc single cylinder mill with liquid cooling and fuel injection. The powerplant punches out 19.31 PS of power and 14.7 Nm of torque, thanks to the VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology. The engine works in tandem with 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. In comparison, the 149 cc engine in the R15 v2.0 makes 17 PS of power and 15 Nm of torque. Expect Yamaha to omit the slipper clutch due to cost constraints.

The design of the R15 v3.0 draws inspiration from its litre-class brother, the R1.

Tyres are from MRF, which will also help keep the cost competitive. Brakes include discs on both ends, without ABS. Expect Yamaha to price the R15 v3.0 in the INR 1.20-1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) range when it launches the bike.
