BMW has built the two bikes on steel bridge frame in monocoque construction for increased riding precision. The design of the two motorcycle is also new and more muscular. BMW has placed the fuel tank in a traditional layout, between the seat bench and the steering head, for optimised packaging and an improved centre of gravity.

The bikes get 853cc in-line twin cylinder engines with a 270-degree firing order and two counterbalancer shafts. The engines pair with a 6-speed transmission with an anti-hopping clutch. The motorcycle also features ‘Rain’ and ‘Road’ riding modes, while the combination of BMW Motorrad ABS and the ASC (Automatic Stability Control) ensures a high level of safety. Brakes on both motorcycles include 305 mm dual discs at the front and a single rear 365 mm disc, both with disengagable ABS.
