Having arrived in October 2006, the current Mitsubishi Delica is over a decade old now. In its mid-term business plan ‘Drive For Growth for FY2017-FY2019,' the company confirmed a full makeover for the Mitsubishi Delica.

The full model change for the Mitsubishi Delica is a part of the company’s strategy for Japan. As its development had started before Nissan acquired a 34% stake in Mitsubishi, the redesigned model will not have Nissan technology. This was confirmed by Mitsubishi Motors President Osamu Masuko, says a report from response.jp.

The Mitsubishi Delica, once sold in India too (as the Mahindra Voyager), is currently in its fifth generation. The sixth-gen mono-box minivan could have some influence of the Mitsubishi Xpander in the design aspect. Previous reports have said that the all-new Mitsubishi Delica will ride on the Mitsubishi Outlander’s platform and won’t sell in front-wheel drive drivetrain layout. It will have a newly developed 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 170 PS and 393 Nm of torque, and the S-AWC full-time four-wheel drive system.

Mitsubishi has not revealed the launch timeline for the next-gen Mitsubishi Delica. The company has just said that the launch will take place during the next three years, i.e. by 2020. A concept version could show up at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show that begins Wednesday. Toyota is toying with the idea of a similar model with the Toyota TJ Cruiser concept.
