The facelift of the fourth generation Honda City was launched earlier this year in February. It has become HCIL's bread and butter model over the years.

Honda first introduced the City in India in January 1998 and was sold until 2003 clocking sales of 59,378 units. The next two generations proved to be more popular with the third generation Honda City racking up sales of almost 2 lakh units in a span of five years. The fourth generation, launched in January 2014, brought with it a diesel variant for the first, which gave sales a push. In its two years and ten months tenure, the fourth-gen Honda City has sold close to 2.7 lakh units.

Speaking about the milestone achievement by the sedan in India, Mr. Yoichiro Ueno, President & CEO, Honda Cars India Ltd said
