HMIL currently has no plans of launching the cross variant of the Grand i10 in India. A source who spoke to IAB said Hyundai Grand i10X India launch is ruled out as a factory fitted crossover kit requires time and capital. The company does not see feasibility in a cross variant of the popular hatchback.

2017 Hyundai Grand i10X India launch
The Hyundai Grand i10X gets cosmetic additions in the form of plastic cladding around the wheel arches and bumpers, and a different set of alloys.

The cross variant of the hatchback is sold exclusively in the Indonesian market. It differs from the standard model with its black body cladding, bumper armour, faux dual exhaust and red accents. It also gets a different set of alloy wheels. Although PT Hyundai Mobil Indonesia imports the Grand i10 from India, the crossover kit is not factory fitted. As per HMIL's quality guidelines, a crossover variant will have to roll out directly from the factory, an exercise that requires substantial monetary investment.

Despite strong demand for crossovers and SUVs in the domestic market, cross hatches have not been able to cash in on it. Case in point being the Fiat Avventura and the VW Cross Polo, which have been unable to find buyers.

A rare success is the segment is the i20 Active. The introduction of the Grand i10X will help lower the entry price point of Hyundai crossovers/SUVs. However the company, we are told, is betting on the Carlino to fill the white space below the i20 Active.

The Carlino concept based QXi compact SUV is slated to arrive in H1, 2019 while the Creta facelift is due next year.
