Following its world premiere at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Porsche has brought the new 911 GT2 RS for a showcase at the IAA 2017 in Frankfurt. It's the craziest iteration of Porsche's 911 series yet.

Seven years after the Porsche 911 GT2 RS (997) graced showrooms in limited numbers, its successor raises the benchmark to levels uncharted by Porsche. Here are some numbers: 700 hp and 750 Nm from a turbocharged 3.8L flat six engine, 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds, 0-200-km/h mark in 8.3 seconds, and 0-300 km/h in 22.1 seconds. And all that fury is sent just to the rear wheels.

It also looks as fiendish as its powertrain performance. Some of the elements look similar to the 911 GT3 RS, while the gaping three-part grille, magnesium roof and carbon fibre panels are unique to the GT2 RS. Also hard to miss is the large fixed rear wing for downforce. Should you wish to squeeze more potential from the GT2 RS, Porsche offers the Weissach package that includes lightweight magnesium wheels, extending the use of carbon fibre to the anti-roll bars, their attendant coupling rods as well as the roof panel, and leaving the frunk unpainted.

Irrespective of the exterior colour, all GT2 RS examples will have a red and black interior theme awash with carbon fibre. And despite its track-focused persona, the GT2 RS comes with the PCM infotainment system with navigation and Porsche Track Precision application.

Porsche has not yet set a cap on its production numbers. It is currently available to order, with initial deliveries expected in early 2018.
