WalkoArt has spotted a pre-production Mercedes C Class mule on its testing rounds, which appears to be sparsely camouflaged. The facelifted C Class is expected to debut at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) in January.
The new C Class will feature revised bumpers with updated air intake, new MultiBeam LED headlights with a LED DRL strips, restyled side skirts, new wheel designs and tweaked LED tail lights with a new C-shaped graphics. From an overall perspective, the exterior does not seem to be significantly different to the outgoing model. The new C Class simply embraces new tech borrowed from its bigger siblings.
More significant changes will be seen inside the car, where it could receive a slight dashboard overhaul, new trim materials and a host of new equipment. Expect the interior to look more or less identical to the GLC F-Cell concept we saw at the IAA 2017 a fortnight back. The new C Class could also feature Mercedes' semi-autonomous Drive Pilot as an option in top variants for select markets.
As for the engine lineup, the C 220d variant will drop the 2.1-litre diesel engine for the new OM 654 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Mercedes E-Class. The current range of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines and 3.0L V6 bi-turbo (C 400) should continue. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual in base variants and a 9G-Tronic 9-speed auto gearbox. 4MATIC will be optionally available in select variants.
