The Volkswagen T-Roc makes use of a new Volkswagen SUV DNA, which is similar to that of the VW Tiguan, the VW Tiguan Allspace and the VW Atlas/VW Teramont. Based on the MQB platform the compact-class crossover is 4,234 mm long, 1,819 mm wide and 1,573 mm tall. It has a 2,603 mm-long wheelbase. Thus, it is bigger than the Audi Q2 in every dimension. There's 445 litres of boot space, expandable to 1,290 litres on folding the rear seat backrests.

The VW T-Roc is feature-rich SUV for its class. On the outside, it has LED headlights, ring-shaped LED DRLs with a turn signal function, silver underbody guards, contrasting colour roof, A-pillars and ORVM housings, 17-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, LED tail lights, chrome exhaust trim and rear diffuser.

11.7-inch Active Info Display (virtual instrument cluster), Discovery Media infotainment system with glass-encased 8.0-inch display, navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink, wireless charging for smartphones, 300-watt, an 8-channel sound system by Beats and ambient lighting are the interior highlights.

Volkswagen will offer the VW T-Roc with six turbocharged engines. 6-speed manual and 7-speed DSG are the transmission choices, and FWD and AWD are the drivetrain layout options.

Volkswagen will build the Euro-spec VW T-Roc at the Setubal plant located near Lisbon in Portugal. The company's board will review a proposal to manufacture MQB platform-based vehicles in India. If that plan is a go, India may get the VW T-Roc as a close rival to the Hyundai Creta, Mahindra S201 and the Jeep Renegade.
