Volvo's parent company Geely is working on a new small SUV codenamed the Geely SX11 for China. Biauto.com has published spy shots of the SX11, revealing details of the future model's exterior and interior.

The Geely SX11 is the first model based on the Volvo-Geely co-developed BMA platform.

The Geely SX11 is the first model based on the Volvo-Geely co-developed 'BMA' platform. Where the CMA platform is for C-segment cars, the BMA platform is for B-segment cars. Regarding the design, the Geely SX11 follows the Geely BoYue compact SUV. However, the SX11, with a smaller size and the roof line descending towards the rear in a more steeply, looks more dynamic and sporty.

Inside, the Geely SX11 has a much different centre console layout compared to the Geely BoYue. The central air vents are below the sleek, floating touchscreen infotainment system. The outer-end air vents look very sporty and set perfectly with the character of the B-SUV. The three-spoke steering wheel is lifted from the BoYue.

Specifications of the Geely SX11 are unknown as of now. The Chinese publication does mention a plug-in hybrid variant named SX11P, though. The standard SX11 should enter production by the end of 2019. Expect derivatives like a compact sedan and perhaps a wagon variant to trail the SX11.

The BMA platform could eventually lead to the arrival of B-segment models from Volvo under the "20 series".

The BMA platform could eventually lead to the arrival of B-segment models from Volvo under the "20 series". Volvo USA CEO Lex Kerssemakers hinted at the 20 series in the recent media interaction. However, the XC40, next-gen S40, next-gen V40, next-gen S60 and next-gen V60 are currently the next course of action. These models, as well as an EV scheduled for a 2019 launch, signal that the Volvo 20 series is quite far from seeing the light of day.
