FCA India confirmed to IndianAutosBlog.com that it has secured 8,171 orders for the Jeep Compass. Furthermore, the product has attracted 84,000 enquiries as of August 24. It has taken FCA India a bit over two months to register these numbers. The strong demand for the Compass, amounting to $245 million (Rs 1,570 crore) in revenue, means FCA is on the right track to recover the $280 million it has invested in local production.

Jeep Compass bookings cross 8,000
The Jeep Compass has launched only in the diesel manual trim.

Jeep opened pre-bookings for the Compass in India in June and by the time of its launch on July 31, it was sitting at 5,000 orders. A major factor behind the successful introduction of the Compass is its price. With a sticker price of INR 14.95-20.65 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi), it cuts between the Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai Tucson.

Deliveries of the Jeep Compass commenced earlier this month. However, only the diesel variants have started reaching customers. The deliveries of the petrol variants of the Compass is to commence in the festive season. The SUV has a waiting period of around three months currently.

Production at the Ranjangaon facility will ramp up to cope with the high demand. FCA wants to produce 110 units of the Compass a day as opposed to the current output of 90. Also, production of export batches of the Compass is yet to start. FCA said it would make the Compass in 50 different trim, powertrain, transmission and colour combinations. That, coupled with the anticipated demand for the upcoming Tata Nexon, will result in the plant operating two shifts a day, six days a week, for the first time since its inception about a decade ago.
