The soon to be launched Tata Nexon has been spotted testing at the Khardung La, one of the world's highest motorable passes. The image was captured by a Team-BHP member and highlights the extensive real world testing the car has undergone in the preparation to its launch.
Khardung La is located in the Ladakh region at an elevation of 5,359 m (17,582 ft). However, based on the elevation, it is not the highest motorable pass in the world as the board in its vicinity claims. 5,359 m is the actual maximum elevation the pass reaches as opposed to the claimed figure of 5,602 m.
The test mules spotted in the snow are finished in Pearlescent White and a shade of Blue. The latter is a couple of tones darker than the Striker Blue available on the Tiago and Tigor. While the one in Blue rides on production spec alloy wheels, the other features black steel rims indicating it could be a lower or mid level trim.
Tata Motors revealed some of the features of the compact SUV yesterday. The Nexon's equipment list includes Multi Drive Modes, a floating Dashtop touchscreen, HARMAN 8-speaker audio system with Android Auto Support and a sliding tambour door mechanism for a storage space placed in the 'Grand Centre Console'. It will also come with automatic climate control, keyless entry, adjustable rear headrests and more.
Specifications of the Nexon has also been made public by Tata Motors. Petrol variants are powered by a 1.2 L Turbo Revotron unit that makes 110 PS and 170 Nm. The Nexon diesel gets a 1.5 L Revotorq engine that puts out 110 PS and 260 Nm. Transmission duties are handled by a new 6-speed manual unit in both cases.
Tata Motors has confirmed the launch the Nexon this festive season. Production of the upcoming SUV is already underway as Tata-FCA's manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. The compact SUV is expected to go on sale at a starting price of INR 6.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom) late next month. Some dealerships are currently accepting bookings unofficially for an amount of INR 11,000.
