Last month an IAB reader had spotted a Renault Captur testing with a benchmark Hyundai Creta. In the latest, MotorBeam reader Vikas has photographed the same in Leh.

The Renault Captur will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the SsangYong Tivoli-based Mahindra S201.

The Renault Captur is a compact SUV based on the Renault Duster's B0/Logan platform. It will compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta and the SsangYong Tivoli-based Mahindra S201.

The Russian Captur measures 4,333 mm long, 1,813 mm wide and 1,613 mm tall. It has a wheelbase of 2,673 mm and offers a ground clearance of 205 mm. Its boot space of 387 litres expands to 1,200 litres with rear seats folded. Expect these specs in the Indian vehicle.

India will get the Renault Captur likely in 1.5L H4K petrol and 1.5L dCi diesel engine models. In the Duster, the petrol engine develops 106 PS and 142 Nm of torque and the diesel engine is available in 85 PS/200 Nm and 110 PS/245 Nm guises. Positioned above Duster as a premium compact SUV, the Captur may keep away from the lower spec diesel engine. The Captur petrol could have 5-speed MT and CVT choices and the 110 PS diesel could have 6-speed MT and 6-speed AMT options.

Renault has a 2.0-litre petrol engine internationally that produces 105 kW (140.75 hp) and 195 Nm of torque. This engine could help level up the competition in the segment, but there's no update on this. The company, however, should offer a four-wheel drive option in the diesel, something the Hyundai Creta misses.

The Renault Captur will reach the Indian market in the third quarter of FY2017-18 (October-December 2017). Prices should start at about INR 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Measuring over four metres long, the compact SUV will attract a total tax of 43% (28% GST and 15% Cess).
