Royal Enfield sold 60,696 motorcycles in May 2017

Sales of the 500 cc and 535 cc Royal Enfield machines experienced a drop in volumes in May 2017.

Royal Enfield has announced that the company sold 60,696 motorcycles in May 2017. This includes domestic sales as well as exports. The numbers stood at 48,604 units in the same month last year.

Sales volume of the 350 cc models has grown by 29 percent while 500 cc models have fallen by 10 percent.

Sales of the Royal Enfield Bullet 350, Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 increased by 29 percent to 55,823 units. However, sales volumes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan, Royal Enfield Continental GT, Royal Enfield Bullet 500, Royal Enfield Classic 500 and Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500 dropped 10 percent to 4,873 units.

Export figures grew by 49 percent to 2,049 motorcycles from 1,372 units on a year on year basis. The company recently opened their second direct subsidiary outside the country in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Royal Enfield has plans to completely overhaul the line-up in 5 years time, which will include a bigger capacity Royal Enfield Himalayan.

The company is at present working on a new twin-cylinder mill which is expected to have an engine displacement of around 750 cc. The new engine is expected to be used first in the Royal Enfield Continental GT 750.

Royal Enfield will be focusing on 4 key markets while the entire line-up will be updated in 5 years.

Royal Enfield has earmarked 4 core markets for future growth which are Thailand, Indonesia, Colombia, and Brazil.
