The Mahindra U321 is said to have a monocoque construction, and it is reported to be harnessing power from a new 1.6-liter diesel engine.

The Mahindra U321 is the next big launch from Mahindra. Designed by and large by the team at the Mahindra North American Technology Center (MNATC) in Troy, Michigan, the Mahindra U321 has been shipped to the Mahindra Research Valley in Chennai for testing and development. While some automakers have started giving MPVs a crossover look, Mahindra has apparently designed the U321 with proportions that clearly define it as a minivan.

The Mahindra U321 is said to have a monocoque construction, but it is unknown whether it rides on Mahindra XUV500's platform or a completely new one. A report stated in April that a Mahindra-SsangYong co-developed 1.6-litre diesel engine will power the MPV. With plans to have a petrol engine across the range and realise export ambitions for the product, the 1.5-litre petrol engine currently under joint development by Mahindra and SsangYong will be an option.
