Honda the only motorcycle company to post big market share gain this FY

Honda will be launching 4 new products this year, one of which is the Honda Africa Twin.

Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India Pvt Ltd continues to have an iron grip on the market, but has gained the most ground in the first two months of the fiscal year in the motorcycle segment.

Honda sold 359,395 motorcycles between April 1, 2017 and May 31, 2017, with the CB Shine leading the way.

According to data released by SIAM, Honda sold 359,395 motorcycles between April 1, 2017 and May 31, 2017. In the same time last year, the volumes stood at 298,142 units.

This fiscal, Honda’s share in the Indian motorcycle market grew to 17 percent, a jump of 2 percent. In comparison, Bajaj Auto’s share shrank by 3.69 percent, and Hero MotoCorp saw a rise in share by 0.25 percent and continues to be the country’s largest motorcycle seller with a massive 51 percent market share.

Royal Enfield in the first two months of the financial year 2017-18 sold 117,211 units which on a year on year basis compares to 94,269 units. Royal Enfield now has a 6 percent market share. TVS sold 155,077 motorcycles, up from 142,725 units. Rounding the top 5, Yamaha grew from 59,607 to 61,392 motorcycles.

The Honda Africa Twin has been priced at INR 12.90 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

Though it may not have an impact on the numbers, Honda India has commenced bookings for the Honda Africa Twin which will be the second CKD product in India after the Honda CBR650F.
