The second round of updates coming to the Maruti Ciaz.

Maruti Suzuki started selling the Maruti Ciaz through Nexa dealerships last month, and while a full-fledged facelift was reported to coincide with the new retail strategy, all that the Ciaz gained was a body colour.

The Maruti Ciaz test mules had their front fog lamps taped up, hinting that Maruti may have fitted a LED DRL strip around them.

However, there is evidence that MSIL has more planned for the car in the form of body and interior updates. Team-BHP reader Inderdeep Singh has spotted a couple of Maruti Ciaz test mules with new features in Delhi-NCR.

From the alloy wheel design, the new Maruti Ciaz seen in the spy shots looks like is in the Zeta grade. The trunk lid doesn't have DDiS and SHVS badges, meaning that car likely is a petrol. The test mules have the lower portion of the rear bumper hidden with black tape, which hides the rear reflectors. The spotter says that the front fog lamps were also hidden similarly. It is possible that Maruti Suzuki is planning to offer daytime running lights surrounding the fog lamps, and maybe add rear fog lamps too to improve nighttime safety.

While the exterior changes are speculative, the interior changes are visible. It looks like there's a new instrument panel with chrome surround on the gauges and a full-length MID. The speedometer and tachometer needles also look new. More changes are possible, but this is all that is visible clearly. Team-BHP's report says that there's wood trim on the dashboard, kept under covers.

Maruti has been exemplary in the upkeep of freshness in the Ciaz, giving it new features and variants in these three years. We presume the new action is to draw attention away from the next-gen Hyundai Verna that is confirmed to enter the market in the second half.

The Maruti Ciaz measures 4,490 mm in length, 1,730 mm in width and 1,485 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,650 mm. It is available with the K14B 1.4-litre VVT petrol engine that produces 68 kW (91.15 hp) and 130 Nm of torque and the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 diesel engine good for 66 kW (88.47 hp) and 200 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, but the petrol model does have an option for a 4-speed automatic transmission. The Ciaz petrol's fuel economy is rated at 20.73 km/l with the manual transmission and at 19.12 km/l with the manual transmission, while the Ciaz diesel delivers 28.09 km/l. Prices start at INR 7,72,582 (ex-showroom Delhi).
