Both sports car concepts to take centre stage at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

The Nissan 370Z, the sixth generation model of the Nissan Z, was introduced in 2008 and will be due for a lifecycle change this decade. The arch rival of its predecessors, the Toyota Supra, is also set for a comeback later this decade. New reports suggest that the new generation sports cars could be showcased in concept form at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2017.

According to a report from Car And Driver, the next Nissan Z car's concept and production version should have proportions similar to those of the Nissan 370Z. The new sports car will have a sharper design and a gaping front-end with cues from the Nissan GT-R. The next Nissan Z car will ride on the Infiniti Q60's FR-L platform.

The next Nissan Z is said to offer a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine that produces 400 hp at 6,400 rpm and 350 lb.-ft. at 1,600 rpm, paired to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. This engine will be in addition to a base 3.0-litre V6 engine tuned to produce 300 hp and 295 lb.-ft., and a hybrid powertrain which will come at a later stage.

According to another report from the same publication, Toyota is bringing three new sports concepts at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show: Toyota S-FR, Toyota Corolla GTI and Toyota Supra. In the recent past, the Toyota Supra was indirectly previewed by the Toyota FT-1 concept at the 2014 North American International Auto Show. The car's final design will be a collaborative work of the company's headquarters in Toyota City, Japan and Calty design studio in California, USA.

A 2.5-litre hybrid model could join the line-up in late 2018. The concept to be shown in Tokyo will be very close to production, the report adds.
