KTM has moved from being almost bankrupt to be one of Europe’s largest selling two-wheeler brand.
Pierer Industrie AG, the parent of KTM, Husqvarna, WP Suspension and Pankl Racing Systems, has invested USD 9 million in Nuviz, a San Diego-based company that provides connected motorcycle riding solutions.
This development comes after BMW Motorrad showcased a helmet with an integrated HUD last year at the Consumer Electronics Show. With KTM now investing in the idea, riders can expect a future where many more manufacturers will be working on a HUD mounted helmet displaying all the necessary information on the visor. For riders, getting the right information at the right time is of paramount importance, and HUDs will help riding become safer.
Nuviz’s first connected riding solution will be introduced in the first half of 2017. This will allow the rider to navigate, communicate and capture videos or photos. Interestingly KTM in its 2017 Duke model line-up has introduced TFT instrumentation sourced from Bosch which can be connected to a rider’s cellphone via an optional My Ride system.
