Will be launched later this year.

IAB reader, Prabhakaran Sivasamy, has managed to photograph the Renault Captur (Renault Kaptur) SUV up close on an Indian highway. Renault's next SUV is expected to launch in India in H2 2017, and it will be locally manufactured at Renault-Nissan's plant in Oragadam. The Captur will fullfill Renault's promise of launching one new car every year, for 2017.

The Renault Captur will be locally manufactured at Renault-Nissan's plant in Oragadam, sitting on the Duster's underpinning.

The Captur to-be-sold in India may look identical to the Captur manufactured and sold in Europe, but the former is based on the Renault Duster and is slightly larger than the latter which is based on the Renault Clio. The Duster-based Captur is already introduced in Brazil and Russia (as the Kaptur), where the Duster's M0 platform is heavily localised.

The Captur measures 4,333 mm in length, 1,813 mm (excluding exterior mirrors) in width, 1,613 in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,674 mm. Compared to the Renault Duster, it is 18 mm longer, but 9 mm narrower and 12 mm shorter, while 2,673 mm long wheelbase is identical. It offers a boot capacity of 387L, which can be extended to 1,200 liters by folding the 60:40 split seats. The Captur will be a five-seater.

The Renault Captur will be positioned above the Duster as a sightly premium offering with a more contemporary exterior. It will rival top-end variants of the Hyundai Creta and Mahindra Scorpio, and even knock on doors of bigger SUVs like the Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai Tucson.
