Renault Captur (Renault Kaptur) on course for its festive season launch – Report

Aravind

Aravind Jayachandran, It goes without saying that I'm a huge petrolhead and can apparently convert all my driving emotions into words you can read.

With the Koleos on its way out, the Captur will be Renault India’s flagship SUV.

Multiple sources confirm to ETAuto that Renault will launch the Duster-based Renault Captur (Renault Kaptur) in India in Q3 of the financial year 2017-18. In other words, it arrives during the festive season (October-December 2017), as reported last year.

The Duster-based Renault Captur (Renault Kaptur) arrives during the festive season (October-December 2017).

Last year Renault India confirmed that a brand new product will launch every year. Note that the model to-be-launched in India will be based on the Renault Duster and is different from the Clio-based Renault Captur sold in Europe and the Middle East.

The Duster-based Renault Captur is introduced in emerging markets like Brazil and Russia (as the Renault Kaptur), places where the Duster’s M0 platform is heavily localised. In India, the Captur will be manufactured with over 80 percent localisation of components at the plant in Oragadam, near Chennai.

Compared to the Renault Duster, the 5-seater Renault Captur is 18 mm longer, but 9 mm narrower and 12 mm shorter, while the 2,673 mm wheelbase is identical. It offers a boot capacity of 387L, which expands to 1,200 litres by folding the 60:40 split seats.

Sporting an urban look, the Renault Kaptur will slot above the Duster, and appeal to customers looking for a smaller alternative to the Mahindra XUV500 or the Hyundai Tucson.

Expect the Captur to be offered with a 1.6L SCe 4-cyl petrol engine and 1.5L dCi four-cylinder diesel engines paired with manual or automatic gearboxes. Like Duster, the Captur could provide an AWD system in the top-end diesel variant.
