The Stingray could become the Maruti Wagon R VXi+ variant.

Autos Arena has photographed what appears to be a Maruti Stingray, but the nameplate at the rear reads only 'Wagon R'. Though the report proposes that the current Wagon R will be discontinued and the Stingray will be rebadged as the 2017 Maruti Wagon R, it is unlikely that Maruti Suzuki would take such a drastic measure to a proven design formula.

The case could be that the Stingray could abandon its independent branding, and become the 2017 Maruti Wagon R VXI+. The exterior of the 2017 Wagon R VXi+ is identical to the Stingray, save for the alloy rims now finished in gun metal.

The 2017 Maruti Wagon R comes with dual-tone beige and black dashboard with gloss black accents instead of retaining the Stingray's all black layout with silver inserts, along with beige fabric upholstery for the seats and door cards.

No changes are reported to the mechanical carriage of the new Wagon R. Under the hood is a 1.0-liter K-Series petrol engine that generates 68 PS and 90 Nm of torque. It can be paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox or 5-speed AGS (AMT). The Wagon R is available with the option of a factory fitted CNG Kit.
