The fourth generation Suzuki Swift is based on a light and and rigid new generation platform called "HEARTECT", which is a derivation of what underpins the Baleno. The JDM-spec version measures 3,840 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and 1,500 mm/1,525 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,450 mm. Compared to the previous generation Swift, the all-new Swift is 10 mm shorter in length, but it offers a 20 mm longer wheelbase.

The 2017 Suzuki Swift will be available with the K12C 1.2-litre DUALJET VVT four-cylinder petrol engine with or without the WA05A electric motor, as well as the K10C 1.0-litre BOOSTERJET VVT three-cylinder petrol engine. The 1.2-litre petrol engine develops 67 kW (91 PS) at 6,000 rpm and 118 Nm of torque at 4,400 rpm, and the electric motor working with it (only in the mild-hybrid model) generates 2.3 kW (3.1 PS) at 1,000 rpm and 50 Nm of torque at 100 rpm. The 1.0-litre petrol engine churns out 75 kW (102 PS) at 5,500 rpm and 150 Nm of torque at 1,700-4,500 rpm.

In Japan, the 1.2-litre petrol model will be offered in 2WD and 4WD, with a 5-speed manual transmission and a continuously variable transmission. The 1.2-litre petrol-electric (mild-hybrid) model gets a CVT as standard and will be available in 2WD and 4WD. The 1.0-litre petrol model will have a 6-speed automatic transmission as standard, which sends drive to the front wheels.
