Although the model showcased at the Auto Expo was an LHD variant, the two examples spied by Performance Factory are RHD variants powered by the 2.0 TDI 4-cyl turbodiesel engine. It produces 140 kW (190 PS/188 hp) and 400 Nm of torque, and is sent to the wheels via a 7-speed DSG and VW's 4MOTION AWD system. A petrol variant is also likely to be offered, which could pack a 1.4-litre TSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 110 kW (150 PS/147 hp) and 250 Nm of torque.

The Tiguan will be the first MQB-based VW to launch in India. It measures 4,486 mm long, 1,839 mm wide and 2,095 mm in high, and has a wheelbase of 2,677 mm. There is 615L of cargo space at the back, which can be increased to 1,655 litres with the rear seats down.

The new Tiguan will be locally assembled with CKD kits at VW's plant in Pune, in a bid to keep the prices competitive. It will rival the Honda CR-V and Hyundai Tucson in the Indian market.
