Diesel variant to continue with the bigger 2.8L GD engine.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has confirmed that the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will not get the Innova Crysta's 2.4L GD turbodiesel engine anytime soon. The diesel variant is only available with the 2.8L GD turbodiesel engine fitted with a manual or automatic gearbox.

The Innova Crysta's 2.4L GD turbodiesel engine produces 149 PS and 343 Nm of torque, which is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox in the MPV. Toyota hasn't provided a reason as to why the Fortuner isn't benefited by the 2.4 unit, given that the previous gen model had two engine options on offer: 2.5L and 3.0L D-4D units.

The new Fortuner's 2.8L GD four-cylinder turbodiesel engine produces 174 hp and 450 Nm of torque, and can be had with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. Also available is a petrol variant, which packs a 2.7L dual VVT-i four-cylinder engine with 164 hp and 245 Nm of torque.
