Following Mercedes India's current trend of launches, the new E Class is likely to be introduced as a well-equipped top-end 'First Edition' that will come through the CBU channel, before it enters CKD production and phased localization at the company's plant in Chakan, Pune. Prices are expected to range between INR 50 Lakhs - INR 65 Lakhs (ex-showroom) for the regular models, while the range-topping Mercedes-AMG E 63 unveiled at the L.A Auto Show could carry a price tag north of INR 1 crore and launch at a later date.

The Indian market is likely to get both petrol and diesel variants at launch. The petrol variant could be the base E 200, which is powered by a 2.0L turbocharged four cylinder engine producing 135 kW (184 hp) and 300 Nm of torque, whereas the diesel lineup may include the E 220d and E 350d. The former packs an all-new 2.0L turbodiesel four-cylinder engine with 143 kW (195 hp) and 400 Nm of torque, while the latter has a more powerful 3.0L V6 turbodiesel engine with 190 kW (258 hp) and 620 Nm. All variants will be paired with Merc's new 9G-TRONIC 9-speed auto gearbox as standard.
