Reported to launch by November.
YouTube user ‘Meghraj Singh’ has videotaped the Maruti Ignis testing on the streets of New Delhi, ahead of a launch which will reportedly take place by November. The Ignis, announced by Maruti for the Indian market at the Auto Expo 2016, will see India’s largest carmaker entering a new segment and rivalling the likes of the Mahindra KUV100.
The Ignis is currently on sale only in Japan, where it measures 3,700 mm in length, 1,690 mm in width, 1,595 mm in height, 2,435 mm in wheelbase and 180 mm in ground clearance. In the Japanese market, it is also available with an optional 4WD system.
For the Indian market though, the Ignis will be a front-wheel drive only model. It is likely to get the 1.2-liter K-Series petrol engine and the 1.3-liter DDiS diesel engine, which is also available on the Maruti Baleno. There are reports which state that both engine variants could get the AGS (automated manual transmission) aside from a standard 5-speed manual gearbox.
Features in the Ignis would include 15- or 16-inch alloy wheels, projector headlights with LED DRL, automatic climate control, steering mounted controls, a touchscreen SmartPlay entertainment system, reverse camera, and a digital MID.
When launched in India, the Maruti Ignis will be retailed through the company’s NEXA outlets which currently sell the Baleno and S-Cross.
