Along with preliminary information, Kia revealed the fourth generation Rio last week ahead of its world premiere at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The all-new Kia Rio will enter mass production towards at the end of 2016. Here's a pictorial comparison between the 2017 Kia Rio and the 2012 Kia Rio.

Exterior

The 2017 Kia Rio features a completely redesigned exterior. The design is a combined effort of the company's design centres in Germany, USA and South Korea. Despite the distinctive Kia characteristics, the overall shape and proportions makes it instantly recognizable as a Hyundai i20 cousin. The redesigned Kia Rio is 15 mm longer (4,065 mm), 5 mm wider (1,725 mm) and 5 mm lower (1,450 mm), and has a 10 mm longer wheelbase (2,580 mm).

Interior

Inside, the 2017 Kia Rio features new door panels, new 3-spoke steering wheel, new dashboard, redesigned centre console housing the new HMI (human-machine interface) infotainment system which is flanked by two vertical HVAC vents and redesigned gear tunnel. Customers will have options of black or grey cloth and black or grey leather seat upholstery. Kia is yet to reveal specific details of the equipment onboard.

Mechanical

The fourth generation Kia Rio is underpinned by the same platform as the second generation Hyundai i20. The 2017 Rio hatchback should come with petrol and diesel engines in displacements ranging from 1.0-litre (turbocharged) to 1.6-litre. Transmission choices are likely to include 4-speed automatic, 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic.
