According to a report from CarsGuide, Honda could make the all-new CR-V more interesting with addition of an RS variant in the line-up. Such a derivative, if launched, could be powered by the 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine from the Honda Civic Type R.

The fifth-gen Honda CR-V will be based on the tenth-gen 2016 Honda Civic's platform. The all-new CR-V could have a three-row version as well, largely aimed at markets where the left-hand drive-only Honda Pilot isn't available. The wheelbase could be stretched by 80 mm to accommodate the third row seats.

Besides the 2.0-litre turbo engine from the Honda Civic Type-R, the 2017 Honda CR-V could be offered with the 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO petrol engine from Honda Civic, as well as 2.0- and/or 2.4-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine(s). European markets and India may get a 1.6-litre diesel engine also, but that's confirmed to be a skip for Australia, where the 2017 CR-V will go on sale in H2 2017.
