Expected to be unveiled at the 2016 LA Auto Show in November.

The VW Teramont (name to be announced) has been spied inside-out completely undisguised, courtesy autohome.com.cn. The VW Teramont is the alleged production version of the VW CrossBlue concept from the 2013 North American International Auto Show.

The VW Teramont will be based on the MQB platform.

Reportedly, a lot of changes have been made on the outside, which also add elements from the company's latest design language, but the overall boxy and robust character are there to stay in the production version. The facelifted VW Passat (NMS)-inspired grille shows the Teramont has been designed especially for North America and China, although that's not to say it won't be sold elsewhere. The interior too is reminiscent of the concept, but does catch up with the latest Volkswagen models with shared components.

Like the second generation 2016 VW Tiguan, the VW Teramont will be based on the Volkswagen Group's MQB platform. The prototype seen in the spyshots is powered by a V6 engine, which could be the 3.6-liter FSI V6 gasoline engine that produces 280 hp in the 2016 VW Passat (NMS). Along with this FSI V6 engine, there could be a 1.8- or 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder gasoline engine on offer. Transmission choices may include 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 6-speed DSG dual-clutch.

The North American-spec VW Teramont will be manufactured by Volkswagen Group of America at the Chattanooga plant in Tennessee, USA, while the Chinese-spec VW Teramont will be made locally by SAIC Volkswagen. Stateside, the production of the company's most important model post-dieselgate will commence at the end of 2016.
