Should be launched in late-2016 or early-2017.

At Auto Expo 2016, TVS unveiled the TVS Akula 310 concept. Its production version, which will reportedly be named TVS Apache RTR 300, has been spied testing for the first time, courtesy DriveSpark.

The TVS Akula 310 concept's production version is reported to be named TVS Apache RTR 300.

The TVS Akula 310 concept is a result of collaboration between TVS Motor and BMW Motorrad. The Indo-German joint venture's first product was the BMW G310R, and the motorcycle seen in these spyshots is based on that.

'Akula' is Russian for Shark, and while it seems to be a name aggressive enough for the first production fully-faired TVS motorcycle, the company would rather go with the Apache branding with which potential customers have familiarity with. Also, this helps the company to extend its Apache series of performance motorcycles.

The TVS Apache RTR 300 won't have a carbon-fibre body like the TVS Akula 310 concept for obvious reasons. Key features expected are a tall windshield, upside-down front forks, monoshock rear suspension, front and rear disc brakes with two-channel anti-lock braking system (ABS) and fully digital instrument panel. The standard tyres could be Pirelli-sourced.

The TVS Apache RTR 300 will be powered by the BMW G310R's newly-developed 313 cc single-cylinder engine. The liquid-cooled motor produces 34 hp (25 kW) at 9,500 rpm and 21 lb.-ft. (28 Nm) of torque at 7,500 rpm in BMW's first sub-500 cc motorcycle. This engine should be paired to a 6-speed transmission.
