The fifth generation Mercedes E-Class was unveiled earlier this year at the 2016 North American International Motor Show in Detroit and was followed by the all-new estate version in June. Next up, one can expect the high-performance AMG variant, the E 63. Here are five things we known about the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63.

1. Exterior Design

The all-new Mercedes-AMG E 63 will sit above the Mercedes-AMG E 43 as the range-topping Mercedes E-Class.

To be offered in saloon and estate body styles, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63 would be characterized by a distinctive "twin blade" radiator grille with AMG lettering, a larger grille, a bigger air dam, larger air inlets, a sporty and purposeful front splitter and air outlets in the rear bumper with an integrated diffuser housing quad exhaust tips.

2. Engine & Transmission

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63 will sport the M177 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine that will be tuned for two different specifications, one for the standard E 63 model and one for the more capable E 63 S model. In the E 63, this engine will deliver 571 PS (562.96 hp) and 750 Nm of torque, while in the E 63 S model, these figures will be upped to 612 PS (603.39 hp) and 850 Nm respectively. These specifications have emerged from a leaked document that surfaced online in April.

3. Performance

Mated to a 9-speed MCT automatic transmission, the new twin-turbo V8 engine will allow the E 63 to do 0-100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds. The E 63 S will do the same a little quicker, in 3.5 seconds. The top speed however, will be electronically limited to 250 km/h in case of both E 63 models. These details were also revealed in the aforementioned document.

4. Debut

The 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63 is reported to have its public debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. In which case, deliveries of the range-topping Mercedes E-Class/Mercedes E-Class Estate should commence in early 2017.

5. Would be launched in India too

Mercedes-AMG's increasing presence in India with the introduction of dedicated AMG performance centers, as well as the fact that the outgoing Mercedes E 63 AMG is sold in India, points to the fact that the forthcoming 2017 Mercedes-AMG E 63 would also be launched in India, possibly in the most powerful S model.
