Production of the Toyota Innova Crysta petrol variant has commenced at TKM’s factory in Bidadi, Karnataka, states a report on GaadiWaadi. It’s expected to launch in the coming weeks, and bookings are currently being accepted at Toyota dealerships across India.
The petrol variant of the Innova Crysta will pack a 2.7L four cylinder petrol engine with Dual VVT-i sourced. The same engine in the Middle East-spec Innova produces 164 hp and 25 kgm of torque. The base G trim is available with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission, while the V trim is only fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox and the top-end Z trim gets the 6-speed automatic only.
Otherwise both the petrol and diesel variants will share its equipment list. The top-end Z grade comes with 17-inch alloy wheels with 215/55R 17 tyres, seven airbags, cruise control, stability control and hill start assist, leather seats with driver seat electric adjust and GPS-guided navigation via a 7 inch touchscreen. Only the base ‘G’ trim is available with an 8-seater option, while rest of the grades are offered as 7-seaters with captain seats in the middle row.
The launch of a petrol variant was prompted by the ban on diesel-powered vehicles that displace over 2000 cc in Delhi NCR by the Supreme Court, which has affected sales of the Innova and Fortuner lineup. Speaking of the Fortuner, the next generation model is also expected to offer the same petrol option when it arrives in India.
