Will launch as the Maruti Baleno 'RS' this festive season.

Team-BHP reader Sainyam Kumar has spotted a Maruti Baleno with test plates and export-spec 16-inch alloy rims, which is alleged to be the Baleno Boosterjet. It will launch in the Indian market as the Maruti Baleno RS this festive season.

Though the car featured is the export-spec model, the India-spec Baleno with Boosterjet will have a sporty body kit.

The car's main highlight will be the 1.0-litre Boosterjet (turbocharged) three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque in the Euro-spec model. It is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. It is reported to be more fuel efficient than the regular Maruti Baleno petrol variant.

Although the Baleno featured is the export-spec model, the India-spec Baleno RS with Boosterjet will feature a mesh grille, sportier front bumper with a wider radiator intake and silver underlining, side skirts, black-painted alloy wheels, roof spoiler and a lower rear bumper. The body kit was previewed by the Baleno RS concept at the Auto Expo 2016 last February.

The Baleno RS will target the Fiat Abarth Punto and the VW Polo GT TSI, which are also powered by small turbocharged engines. However, the Polo GT TSI offers a quick 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
