With the 2017 model year, the Nissan Micra will enter its fifth generation. While the previous spyshots showed the car's front-end, the new spyshots show its rear-end and reveal the taillamp shape.

The 2017 Nissan Micra incorporates Nissan's new design language shown with the Nissan Sway Concept.

Designed closely around the Nissan Sway Concept, the fifth generation Nissan Micra will be completely different from the current, fourth generation Nissan Micra. With a revolutionary redesign, the Nissan Micra will grow considerably in size, spyshots suggest. The next-gen Micra could be similar in size to the Sway Concept that measures 4,010 mm in length, 1,780 mm in width and 1,385 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,570 mm.

The next-gen Nissan Micra will reportedly be based on a mixed platform comprising some elements of the CMF-B version of the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s CMF (Common Modular Family) platform. The grown and mature Micra's main rivalry in Europe will be with the Ford Fiesta and the VW Polo, both of which are set to enter their next generation in 2017. It's expected to be offered with petrol and diesel engines with displacements ranging from 0.9- to 1.6-litre, some of which could be shared with the Renault Clio.

The 2017 Nissan Micra should be in the final phase of testing now. The French-Japanese alliance announced earlier this month that the new generation Micra's production will commence at the Renault plant located in Flins, near Paris, France by the end of the year. The next-gen Micra is expected to debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show in September. AMEI (Asia, Middle East and India) region markets will get a different next-gen Micra that will be built at the alliance's facility in Oragadam near Chennai, India.
