According to a report on Overdrive, Tata Motors is planning at least six new cars aside from the models showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 (Tata Kite 5 compact sedan, Tata Nexon compact SUV and Tata Hexa). The new models in question will involve Tata's multiple design studios (situated in Italy, U.K. and India), and JLR-derived processes will be seen in these vehicles.

Four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines will power the AMP-based products.

First up is a new premium hatchback that goes by the codename Tata X451. The X451 will take aim at the premium hatchback segment composed of the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Baleno, Honda Jazz and VW Polo. Thanks to the new launches, this segment is showing as much potential as the hatchback segment (Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti Swift etc.) with Hyundai and Maruti selling more than 10,000 units each.

Tata's new Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) will form the basis of the X451 premium hatchback and a mid-size sedan based on it. The sedan will naturally go after the Honda City and the Maruti Ciaz.

The X451 will sport styling cues derived from the Tata Nexon, says the report. It will feature an aggressively-styled front fascia with stylish alloy wheels and projector headlights. Inside, premium materials are expected to construct a high-tech cabin with a touchscreen infotainment system, Tata's characteristic 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a modern instrument cluster. The new AMP-based products are expected post 2017.
