Maruti S-Cross 1.5L petrol variant under consideration for India
Aravind Jayachandran, It goes without saying that I'm a huge petrolhead and can apparently convert all my driving emotions into words you can read.
1.5L engine produced 100 hp in previous Swift (international spec).
The report states that Maruti could introduce the 1.5L four cylinder N/A petrol engine (M15) in the S-Cross. Offered in the previous gen Suzuki Swift (international spec), the 1.5L engine produced 100 hp and 133 Nm of torque. Furthermore, the M15 engine will reportedly replace the smaller 1.4L four cylinder engine (K14) in the Ciaz.
Currently, the Maruti S-Cross is offered with an all diesel engine lineup that includes a 1.3-litre diesel unit (dubbed as the DDiS 200) with 89 bhp & 200 Nm paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, and a 1.6-litre DDiS 320 diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger, which is capable of 120 PS and 320 Nm of torque, and is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
There is a rise in demand for petrol-powered cars, given the narrowing price gap between petrol and diesel fuels as well as the crackdown on diesel-powered by cars by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal. As of now, it’s unclear as to when Maruti will introduce a petrol variant of the S-Cross.
