Sales of Maruti Ciaz cross the 100,000 mark

The Maruti Ciaz has crossed the 100,000 sales mark since it was launched in October 2014. In May, the Ciaz managed to become the top selling mid-size sedan in its segment, staying ahead of cars like the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, VW Vento.
The Ciaz was an important product for Maruti, as the mid-size segment was one Maruti couldn’t crack, until now. Its success could’ve been a confidence booster for the company to introduce more products in the premium segments.
Another reason for its success is the SHVS mild-hybrid in the diesel variant, which has not only received financial incentives from the government, but also been exempted from Delhi’s infamous Odd-Even rule. It is one of the least expensive cars in the market to feature such a system, and its implementation has also made it the most fuel efficient car in the market (28.09 km/L).
Recently, the government had reduced the excise duty on the Ciaz SHVS to 12.5 percent (down from 24 percent), thanks to the mild-hybrid components. It’s now priced between INR 7.68-9.49 Lakhs (ex-showroom), an INR 55,000-69,000 drop in prices (depending on the variant).
