Leaked images of the next gen Swift have revealed an evolutionary design that retains the familiar, urban styling of the current Swift, but is equipped with contemporary elements like a large grille, new headlights with projector lamps, floating roof impression, new taillamps and alloy rim designs.

The 2017 Swift will be based on the Baleno‘s lightweight platform, which is expected to shed nearly 50 kg from the current model’s kerb weight. The weight loss should improve the Swift’s fuel economy and performance, while the extra rigidity could increase crash protection levels to meet India's future safety regulations.

Engine lineup for the international-spec model could be sourced from the Suzuki Baleno, which includes a 1.0L three-cylinder Boosterjet petrol engine and a 1.25L DualJet N/A engine with SHVS mild hybrid powertrain. The India-spec Maruti Swift is likely to continue with the 1.2 four cylinder K-Series petrol engine, albeit with certain refinements, while the diesel variant could get a brand new engine developed by Maruti (Suzuki).
