The Toyota Innova Crysta is priced from INR 13.84 lakhs, ex-Showroom, Mumbai.

Owing to the ban on diesel-engined passenger vehicles with displacement more than 2,000 cc in NCR, manufacturers like Toyota, Mahindra and luxury car makers like Mercedes-Benz have been affected. While Mahindra was quick to launch a 1.99-liter variant of the Scorpio and XUV500, manufacturers like Toyota are exploring the petrol route.

Mr. Raja confirms that Toyota has "fast-tracked the development of a 2.7-liter petrol engine", and that Toyota's R&D engineers in Japan are "working on the new engine". He further stated that the petrol variant of the Crysta will be launched by Diwali this year.

Toyota already sells the all-new second generation Innova with a petrol engine in markets like Indonesia and Middle East. Where the Indonesian market gets a 2.0-liter 1 TR-FE 16-valve DOHC with Dual VVT-i petrol engine, the Middle Eastern markets get the more powerful 2.7-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with Dual VVT-i technology.
