India-bound Renault Kaptur – In Images and Video

Sagar Parikh, I'm the international news editor at IndianAutosBlog.com. I love everything that has a steering wheel!

Is longer, more spacious than the Renault Captur.

Earlier this week, Renault unveiled the Renault Kaptur in Russia as a crossover for emerging markets. While we’ve already seen live images from the unveiling event, a new set of images and a video of one of the very first production units give a close look at the Kaptur in person.

The Renault Kaptur will be available with 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission.

The Renault Kaptur is almost identical to the Renault Captur, its European cousin, save for a few styling tweaks and larger dimensions. It’s 4,333 mm long, 1,813 mm wide (excluding door mirrors) and 1,613 mm in height, and has a 2,674 mm-long wheelbase. On the outside, the Kaptur features a distinctive honeycomb mesh pattern radiator grille, tweaked front bumper, C-shaped LED daytime running lights, bigger quarter glass and LED taillights.

Inside, the Kaptur has a different steering wheel compared to the Captur. The dashboard, instrument panel, centre console, seats and all other elements except the roof, which is white, follow a black theme. However, the Kaptur is more spacious inside, thanks to the increased dimensions. It offers a 387 litre boot space with the second-row seats up and a maximum 1,200 litre boot space with the 60/40-split bench seats fully folded. Infotainment needs are taken care of by the 7-inch MEDIA NAV system. For a country that cold, Renault will also offer heated front seats and a heated windshield.

The interior follows a black theme overall.

The engine, transmission, fuel economy and all other specifications are likely to be revealed closer to the market launch which will happen in Summer 2016 (June-August 2016). The interior images, however, clearly suggest that a 6-speed manual transmission and an automatic transmission will be available. As for the drivetrain configuration, Renault has confirmed the availability of four-wheel drive.

The Renault Kaptur will be manufactured at the company’s Moscow plant. Exports will be made to other nations of the Eurasian Economic Union: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Russian reports say. In November, the Kaptur will reportedly take the stage at 2016 Sao Paulo International Motor Show and launch in Brazil in 2017.

An Indian business news publication has reported earlier that the Indian launch will happen in October 2017. There are no plans to launch the Kaptur in Europe, Renault has confirmed.
