Compact SUVs equipped with automatic gearboxes are slowly picking up traction in the Indian market, particularly due to their effortless drivability around crowded cities. Here is a list of affordable compact SUVs that offer the option of an automatic gearbox.

Accounting for 18% of the total sales, the Hyundai Creta diesel automatic variant is seemingly a popular option for customers looking for hassle-free drivability in an SIV. Priced from 14.38 lakhs (Ex-showroom Delhi), the Hyundai Creta diesel automatic is only available in the SX+ grade, although Hyundai is prepping to launch a less expensive version based on the S+ grade and a petrol automatic variant for the first time.

One of the newest entrants in the diesel automatic SUV segment is the facelifted Renault Duster, which debuts Renault's Easy-R AMT gearbox in India. It is available in RxL and RxT grades, both of which are priced at 11.66 lakhs and 12.86 lakhs, respectively. The 6-speed AMT is only available in the 1.5-liter 110 PS diesel variant with 2WD.

It employs a 5-speed AMT unit that is paired to a new 1.5-liter three cylinder mHawk diesel engine with 100 PS and 240 Nm of torque. Available in N6 and N8 grades, prices start from INR 9.00 Lakhs and INR 9.76 Lakhs, respectively, making it the least expensive diesel automatic SUV in the market.

The distinction of the first SUV with an AMT option in the market goes to the Mahindra TUV300. Available in T6+ and T8 grades, prices start from INR 9.02 lakhs and INR 9.64 lakhs, respectively. The 5-speed AMT is paired to a 1.5-liter three cylinder mHawk engine with 84 PS and 230 Nm of torque.

In its latest iteration, the Mahindra Scorpio AT pairs a 6-speed automatic transmission to the 2.2-liter mHawk four-cylinder diesel engine which is capable of 120 bhp at 4,000 rpm and 280 Nm of torque. It is available in the S10 2WD and S10 4WD trims only. The Mahindra S10 2WD AT is priced at INR 13,13,701, while the 4WD AT is priced at INR 14,32,976 (ex-showroom).
