Changes are subtle but include new Multibeam headlights with LED DRLs, twin-slat chrome grille, large air intakes, revised LED tail lights and a re-profiled rear bumper. The dimensions of the GLS are 5,131 mm, 2,141 mm and 1,849 mm in length, width and height respectively. There is also comfortable seating for seven occupants with a wheelbase measured at 3,073 mm.

In international markets the GLS is powered by the familiar choice of engines that range from the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol to the fire-breathing 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 unit in the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 (featured). The GLS 350d 4MATIC, the sole diesel in the lineup, continues to be powered by the 3.0-liter V6 unit that generates 255 hp and 617 Nm of peak pulling power.

All models get the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox with the exception of the AMG version that is still coupled to the 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
