According to ET Auto, Mahindra is working on a sub-4m version of the Mahindra Bolero, codenamed U108, which is expected to arrive in the second half of this year.

The sub-4m version of the Mahindra Bolero is expected to arrive in the second half of this year.

If the report is to be believed, it's unclear as to why such a product is under development, given that the Mahindra TUV300 serves that very purpose. However, the reason used is that extra cess on large SUVs as well as restrictions on diesel engine displacement makes the regular Bolero less affordable to rural markets, where the company receives bulk of the demand.

With the sub-4m Bolero, the company is working on a volume potential of 25,000 units a year. Apparently, the reports states that the U108 is an intermediate action plan from Mahindra to keep the nameplate popular, before the next generation Bolero arrives in 2018-19.
