IAB reader Bils-Klinker Hannelore has sent a picture of the next generation Opel Insignia in Arjeplog (in Lapland, Sweden). The Skoda Superb rival will enter its second generation in 2017, with design and styling acquired from the Opel Monza concept that was unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in September 2013. The car's world premiere is reportedly set for the Paris Motor Show in October 2016.

The next gen Opel Insignia will be based on GM's E2XX platform which will help the car shed over 100 kg.

The second generation Opel Insignia will share GM's E2XX platform with the ninth generation Chevrolet Malibu that was unveiled at the 2015 New York International Auto Show in April. The new platform will help bring the weight down by over 100 kg.

According to other reports, the all-new model will be 15 cm longer and its wheelbase will be around 9 cm longer, which should translate into excellent rear seat comfort. The current Opel Insignia saloon is 4,842 mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,737 mm. There will be an estate version, called the Insignia Sports Tourer, like now. Features on the new Insignia family would include Matrix LED headlamps, IntelliLink multimedia, and semi-autonomous driving, reports claim.

The design and styling will be inspired by the Opel Monza concept. The car is reported to go on sale early next year.

The next-gen Opel Insignia will be offered with an array of new generation three- and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engine options. Among these, will be the new 160 hp 1.6 BiTurbo CDTI diesel unit offered in the fifth generation Opel Astra. All-wheel drive and adaptive suspension will be available optionally. For performance enthusiasts, there will be an OPC variant, probably packing a turbocharged six-cylinder engine with maximum power output of around 400 PS (394 hp).
