Team-BHP member RGK has posted spyshots of a camouflaged test mule of the Datsun redi-Go ahead of its launch in the coming months.

The Datsun redi-Go is based on the same platform as the Renault Kwid (CMF-A).

The Datsun redi-Go, codenamed the Datsun I2, is the brand's next product for India. It will be the second vehicle to be based on the CMF-A platform that spawned the Renault Kwid. Despite using the same platform, the redi-Go will get unique exterior and interior designs. The car was expected to be unveiled before or at the Auto Expo, but the launch appears to have faced a setback.

Economic Times recently reported that the redi-Go will not be powered by the Kwid's all-new 0.8-litre engine or the 1.0-litre three-cylinder motor that has been unveiled on the Kwid at the Auto Expo 2016, but will use Nissan's 1.2-litre three-cylinder motor that is featured on the Datsun Go, Go+ and the Nissan Micra.

The Renault Kwid's 799 cc three-cylinder SCe engine seems ideal for the redi-Go given that it will be the smallest and cheapest Datsun model. The power plant is tuned to produce 54 PS and 74 Nm on the Kwid, and it is unclear if it will be offered in the same state of tune on the redi-Go, if this engine is used.

Competitors: Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto, Hyundai Eon
Expected launch date: H1 2016
Expected price: INR 2.5-3.5 lakhs
