Petrol variant for export markets.

According to a report on the Economic Times, the Maruti Vitara Brezza will be available in India - at least initially - only with a diesel engine. A petrol variant would be offered for export markets, and could be introduced in India at a later stage.

The Maruti Vitara Brezza will have its world premiere at the Auto Expo 2016.

The diesel engine in question is the Maruti Swift-borrowed 1.3-liter DDiS unit, though it remains to be seen in which tuning state this engine is offered (on smaller cars like the Maruti Swift and Dzire, the engine develops 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque, while on larger cars such as the Maruti Ciaz and Maruti S-Cross, it produces 90 PS and 200 Nm).

Despite not having a petrol variant (sales of petrol-powered cars account for roughly 50 percent of Maruti's overall sales), the company aims to sell around 10,000 units of the Vitara Brezza. It will primarily rival the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300, the latter is also available exclusively with a diesel engine.

For export markets, the Maruti Vitara Brezza will reportedly be powered by an M-Series petrol engine, which could be paired to manual and automatic transmissions. Indonesia is reported to be a key export market for the Vitara Brezza.
