The Boosterjet engine develops 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque.

The engine in question is a three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbocharged unit capable of 110 hp and 170 Nm of torque. This all-new engine will be offered alongside a 1.25-liter DualJet petrol engine with the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology for export markets.

The Baleno was introduced in India with the K-Series 1.2-liter petrol engine and the 1.3-liter MultiJet DDiS unit. Sources told Indian Autos Blog that these engines were selected for the Indian market given their long-term reliability, proven fuel efficiency and for their cost benefits.

However, the Boosterjet engine could be introduced on the Indian Baleno once the cost of the engine justifies the added power and uncompromised fuel efficiency for Indian buyers. "The awareness around downsized turbocharged engines is still relatively low in a country like India", one person in the know told Indian Autos Blog when asked about the Boosterjet's Indian launch.

The made-in-India Baleno and Boosterjet engine will also be exported to Suzuki's home market in Japan. However, European exports are slated to commence first, with reports pointing out Maruti will ship the first batch this month.
