Here are the top six motorcycles that are expected to be launched in India in 2016.
Royal Enfield Himalayan:
The Himalayan is the company’s first all-new model after many years, which will be the most affordable true-blue adventure tourer in the country. It is expected to be launched in two versions – a city model and an off-road specific variant. Based on a new frame, the RE Himalayan is believed to feature an all-new 410 cc air-cooled engine with an oil-cooler that may produce around 28 PS and 32 Nm, mated to a five-speed gearbox. The model is anticipated to be launched in the coming months.
Bajaj Pulsar CS400:
Unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Pulsar Cruiser Sport 400 is a naked tourer that uses a modified version of the KTM Duke 390’s chassis and powertrain. It is expected to launch by mid-2016, though some reports state a launch would happen this financial year.
The first product out of the agreement between BMW Motorrad and TVS Motor Company, the BMW G310R, is anticipated to debut and launch in India at the Auto Expo 2016 in Greater Noida in February. It will compete with the KTM Duke 390 in terms of price as the model is expected to be priced close to INR 2 lakhs (ex-showroom). Its TVS version will also be launched the same year.
Suzuki Gixxer 250:
The Gixxer 250 is a quarter-litre version of the entry-level Gixxer series. It is expected to be named the Suzuki GSX-R250 if not the Gixxer 250. It appears to be a sports tourer that uses the twin-cylinder 248 cc engine that does duty on the Suzuki Inazuma touring machine. The model could debut at the Auto Expo 2016.
With Hero MotoCorp completing the project after having bought-out the relevant resources from its former partner, EBR, the Hero HX250R is expected to make its debut at the Auto Expo 2016 with a launch around the same time. It will compete with the Honda CBR250R, the Suzuki Gixxer 250 and the like.
TVS Apache 200:
The Apache series is expected to grow with a new flagship product, the Apache 200, which gets a single-cylinder air-cooled engine with an oil-cooler, and modern features such as the fully digital instrument cluster. Without ABS, the motorcycle will compete with the KTM Duke 200, the Bajaj Pulsar AS200 and the upcoming Pulsar 200NS FI which is expected to be launched next year.
