Currently the least powerful diesel car in its segment.
Autocar India reports that the Maruti Baleno has a possibility of getting the DDiS 200 version at a later stage. In other words, the Baleno could share the diesel engine from the Maruti Ertiga and the Maruti Ciaz in the same state of tune.
The Baleno is currently offered only with the DDiS 190 diesel engine which is the Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre four-cylinder unit that is tuned to produce 75 PS at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm at 2,000 rpm. The DDiS 200 version of the same engine generates 90 PS at 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Both the models of the engine are mated to five-speed manual transmission.
The Maruti Baleno is now the least powerful diesel car in its segment which comprises of the Honda Jazz, the Hyundai Elite i20, the Fiat Punto EVO and the VW Polo.
The Baleno was launched in late October at a price range of INR 4.99 lakhs to INR 6.76 lakhs for the petrol version and INR 6.16 lakhs to INR 8.11 lakhs for the diesel trim (ex-showroom, New Delhi). Around 40,000 units of the premium hatchback have been booked thus far through the NEXA dealerships.
