Datsun launches in Namibia with India-made Datsun Go - Report

Is the cheapest new car in Namibia.

A report on Economist suggests that the (India-made) Datsun Go hatchback has been launched in the Namibian market. With this, Datsun expands into yet another market in the African continent with help from the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in India.

Datsun Go+ tracking Review — Alongside the South African market, the Datsun Go will be exported from India to be sold in the Namibian market.

To be sold via the Pupkewitz Motor Division, the distributor for Nissan, the Datsun Go will be retailed at N$ 109,000 (Rs 5,01,520) making it the cheapest new car in Namibia. The no-frills hatchback is set to be sold in dealerships belonging to the Pupkewitz Motor Division in four cities in the country. Apart from sales and service, the dealerships will also be selling the car's components as part of the agreement with Datsun.

Datsun Go dashboard at the 2014 Nepal Auto Show — Like in India, the Datsun Go will be sold via the existing Nissan dealerships in Namibia.

In a recent interaction with IndianAutosBlog.com, Vincent Cobee, Corporate Vice President - Global Head of Datsun - said that Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Philippines, Vietnam and Brazil were "logical frontiers" for the brand. It would be no surprise, he said, if one were to spot a Datsun car in the roads of Namibia.

For the Indian market, Datsun is said to be looking to expand its equipment list to compete against its rivals. The company is also considering equipping the hatchback with an AMT gearbox and not an ABS unit.
